AFRICA

Ghana, Africa – 2010

My first trip to Ghana, Africa was in the year of 2000 and the last one was in 2010. The trips lasted for 10 days each. The flights were 11 to 14 hours. Upon arrival at the airport, there was a crowd of people waiting to welcome me. They were welcoming, super friendly, and had much excitement in them.

Meals were prepared, which were very good, with basically the same types of food as we have in the States. A meal would consist of meat (chicken, pork, fish), rice, fried bananas, plantain, coconuts and coconut juice. They do eat monkey and iguanas; however, I did not. They have restaurants in the cities with American food.

The focus was on establishing churches and affirming ministers. Crusades were conducted for the women and ministry in the schools and orphanages. Churches hosted me to minister to their congregations. Many people who were sick and afflicted received personal ministry.

I had the awesome opportunity to minister and pray with one of the kings in a village. This was a very humbling experience. While at the village, I visited an orphanage and witnessed the handy-work of the women making jewelry out of glass.
During many of the services, we were confronted by witches, voodoo doctors, and witch doctors who tried to discourage us from preaching the Gospel.

During my stay there, I was invited to stay with a family. The family had their personal chef prepare my meals. Africa has electric and water; however, it is not always available. Normally every day the electric goes off so they can build the supply up. Water runs for certain time also and extra water is run and stored in 55 gallon trash cans to use for bathing. Many villages do not have electricity.

Do not expect to see many traffic lights—they hold their arm out the window and go. If you ride in a vehicle there, you will learn to pray if you don’t already know how. It is the norm to see a small pickup have people standing in the back like sardines driving down the road or see people in buses or on the top of the buses.
